Heroes behind the scenes

Sanger Sequencing Laboratory

"Genomics BioSci operates Taiwan’s first high-speed sequencing laboratory to have received TAF ISO 17025 international certification. In the Sanger Sequencing process, the nucleic acid (DNA) samples provided by customers are prepared into DNA templates for sequencing, using various processing procedures, followed by PCR amplification. The amplified PCR products are then separated by capillary electrophoresis into DNA fragments of different sizes, each tagged with a fluorescent probe, allowing us to determine the sequence arrangement of the DNA bases—A, T, C, and G.

This lab is equipped with multiple ABI 3730XL systems, operated by personnel in two shifts daily to manage sequencing orders. The systematic, high-capacity sequencing procedures enable us to deliver electronic results within just 24 hours. Additionally, Genomics offers rapid sequencing services for any DNA specimen, supported by a fully electronic business platform that allows customers to submit orders, track progress, and download sequencing data with ease. This platform also enables us to provide top-tier technical support and troubleshooting services.

The finished product of the sequencing reaction undergoes rigorous quality checks by our Quality Assurance division, including sequence alignment and sequence trimming comparisons, to ensure that the customer’s orders are accurate before delivery."

Next Generation Sequencing Laboratory

"NGS, or Next-Generation Sequencing, is a technology that allows for the generation of large amounts of data with high throughput of short DNA fragments, enabling the decoding of vast sequences such as entire genomes. This has significantly accelerated the pace of decoding species' genomes in the post-genomic era. With NGS, we can rapidly create genomic sequence databases for various species, supporting a wide range of applications in scientific research, agriculture, medicine, genetic testing, and prenatal screening.

Since the establishment of our NGS division in 2009, Genomics BioSci has developed a diverse next-generation high-throughput sequencing platform. Depending on the project's requirements and experimental objectives, we select the most suitable sequencing platform to optimize data output. By comparing and analyzing the data using different bioinformatic databases, we provide our customers with accurate and comprehensive results.

The Illumina NovaSeq X Plus, one of the most advanced high-throughput next-generation sequencers available, is now part of our arsenal. Genomics is proud to be the first in Taiwan to install this cutting-edge machine and has already commenced sequencing services. With multiple sequencing chip options available, including the 10B chip, we can generate up to 3TB of data, ensuring flexibility and high performance to meet our clients' diverse needs."

GMP Plant

"In 2021, Genomics BioSci partnered with the Industrial Technology Research Institute to establish a GMP-compliant nucleic acid and peptide synthesis plant. This initiative involved upgrading existing technologies, introducing advanced professional equipment and instruments, and recruiting additional talent to build a GMP-certified team, marking our entry into the Tides CDMO sector. The plant was constructed in accordance with the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Standards for Medicament Factory Establishments and PIC/S GMP guidelines.

All synthesis processes are carried out in clean manufacturing zones with stringent environmental controls, including precise regulation of temperature, humidity, particulate matter, and microbial presence, to prevent external contamination. This ensures the highest manufacturing quality across all stages, including synthesis, purification, concentration, lyophilization, and packaging of oligonucleotides.

The plant has obtained a pharmaceutical manufacturer’s permit, is ISO 9001-certified, and has successfully achieved gram-scale manufacturing processes for nucleic acid vaccine adjuvants CpG7909 and CpG1018."
